National Gun Owner's Insurance

How about it? Every gun owner should have to take responsibility for the fact that his ownership of a firearm by virtue of his 2nd amendment rights makes him at least partially responsible for each and every illegal, gun related death. That gun owner participates in a system where guns can and are diverted, where an excess of firearms are created and the creators motivated to sell, regardless of the qualifications of the buyer and in some cases in spite of their qualifications or lack thereof.

I propose a national fund intended to reimburse those victims of gun violence whereby each gun owner pays a yearly premium or a lump sum if he intends to have his ownership remain anonymous. The fund should be indexed to gun violence, should that violence go down, their payments would go down, if FBI stats demonstrate that gun violence is going up, premiums would go up as well. The lump sum buyer takes his chances.

This is not a tax and there should be a private insurer who takes care of the details, making a profit as is reasonable. Of course in order to have this float, manufacturers and distributors of firearms would bear the brunt of payments and they would be made liable in civil court.

How much is your 2nd amendment right to keep and bear really worth to you?

"Every gun owner should have to take responsibility for the fact that his ownership of a firearm by virtue of his 2nd amendment rights makes him at least partially responsible for each and every illegal, gun related death." Gun ownership equals murder? I don't think so. I say you, as a non-gun owner, are responsible for every violent death that has occurred because you didn't meet your responsibility to protect your fellow citizens. You are guilty of countless murders. You should be put to death for shirking your responsibility and causing all those deaths.

This strikes me as a way to interest the Center in a backdoor to a national registry. I oppose that for obvious reasons. cn

Where can I find out that this is indeed a fact and not a claim?

Why should responsible gun owners be paying for a crime commited by someone most likely Not Owning a registered weapon? Preposterous.

and you with your guns have prevented none of those deaths either.

in fact, let's not even get into your track record with deaths. your batting average is pretty dismal by most people's standards, but i suppose you would consider your victims as trophies.

There is no way to measure prevented deaths ... or prevented attacks.
The Australian and British experiences are telling. After sweeping gun restrictions were imposed, deaths by violence dropped or remained stable. Gun-caused deaths plummeted. The real kicker is that violent assault doubled to quadrupled. It's all in what one chooses to present. cn

what a brilliant plan!

not only do you get a list of those who own firearms, but they have to pay a monthly premium for the privilege!

and of course when the "priviege" becomes so expensive due to premium increases, eventually those who cant afford to drop $3-500 a month on their gun insurance plan will get a visit from the cops as soon as their "policy" lapses and they will be summarily disarmed.

awesome.

and by jacking the costs up higher and higher eventually only those deemed worthy will be able to afford the self defense that "Baddog40" finds so repellant.

naturally, the cost of the plans will be scaled so they are just out of reach of say... the lowly "McDonalds Fry Makers" who "baddog40" thinks are so undeserving of any rights.

this is the stupidest least well thought out, most pointles and most fucking retarded proposal ever in the long history of the gun debate.

i knw, why dont we just make a NEW law which makes it a SUPER DUPER crime to use a gun in a crime, criminals wouldnt commit a SUPER DUPER crime!

or how about when you get caught doing a crime with a gun the first time, they release you, but make you Pinky Swear that youll never touch another gun. one gun crime dispensation and a Pinky Swear would totally end gun violence.

A sin tax on guns? I'm actually surprised this isn't a cause du jour already. Let's go occupy something and spread the truth.

Can I get an exemption for my family heirlooms? All good policies have exemptions.

Do you live under a rock? Were Pot growers, it's our job to take responsibility for others. Sad But true

Hey, uh the cat threw up again on the new carpet. I'm a little busy this morning, mind cleaning it up ? Oh, and in the dryer there's a few clothes that need attending to, the iron is in the closet, right next to the vacuum cleaner. S'pose to be nice today, if you can get to raking up those leaves out front that'd be cool too.

Thanks.
