Pablo's Socal Balcony Grow

Yep, some folks take this journal thing waaaaaay to seriously.

I'm positive that the damage to my plant is bud rot. I did a bit of research on it, and the conditions were prime in coastal SoCal for it to develop. Particularly in plants that have big buds where the moisture gets locked in. I find more of it every day. It's some nasty stuff, so I need to remove every affected bud as soon as I see it, cut out all of the rot, and hope it dries without developing any more. Not much of this plant will make it to the proper harvest date, I'm afraid. It will still provide me with a good amount of awesome smoke, tho. If it's not one thing, it's another.

Yeah dude, these California coastal regions have this issue
I got the same problem I think, found some bud rot on G.G's clone. It's so sad having to remove all this nasty gunk...the plant just looks sad, like it's equivalent to hair fell out or something afterward

Hey Weedoozie, you know I was looking at your latest update and thought I saw what appeared to be a little something in pic # 3? The weather man said this has been the coldest summer since 1933. Yeah, it's like the plant is on chemo.

I should be able to harvest most of the buds, but now I'm concerned about the drying process. For now I've been brown bagging them, which seems to be working. I just give it a little toss and flip the bag every so often.

Climate change this year sucks
Yup, that is right in pic #3. I removed that gunk and it left a patch of stem without flower :( but luckily, I didn't see anything else like it anywhere else on the kids. Hoping that was all

Brown bagging is an easy way to dry buds, works well and it's inexpensive but I'm not sure how good it is for the THC smackin around in there...?

I just don't know what else to do. I suppose I could put them on a baking rack, but some of the little buds would drop right through. It seems to be working. I suppose there could be a little degradation to the trichs on the outer shell of the bud, which is only a tiny fraction. I can envision the outer trichs being smashed onto the bud itself, but doesn't seem like a big deal relatively speaking.

I even thought about running a needle and thread thru them and hang them that way, but that would cause more trauma to them than brown bagging.

I just tied string through a box, and hung the buds from the bottom most budsite, so they hung perfectly...

Or you could use a screen
You just have to buy screen material (a couple feet of it isn't that expensive) and just lay your buds on it after laying the screen over 2 supports (like arm rests of a chair)

Or you could do the hang dry method billcollector99 mentioned using string or wire hangers like I did for my 1st grow :)

Yeah I like the hang method in like a closet with a fan blowing lightly on the branches to evenly dry them. Usually do that for up to a week, then cut the buds off and they go into the jar for a cure. Pop open the jars a few times a day to get the remaining moisture out.

I've been doing hydro for a while but I must say I'm excited to grow outdoors. Free light can't be beat:leaf:

I generally use the hang dry method. My Diesel Ryder is hanging right now. But these are pieces of buds with no stem or otherwise to allow them to "hang" onto a line. Paper bags is working for these pieces. Much of it will be able to be hung later.

Hope its ok posting my pic up Pablo, I just wanted to show you my progress. Since you're the only one I've been following closely, you get to see what I'm up to.:leaf::clap:

Front 2 big ones are the WOS Afghan Autos..just starting to flower right around 3 weeks, front right is a Sagamartha AK48 clone from a buddy..its was supposed to be an auto, it isnt. Found out the hard way yet again, they are sending me another pack for my buddy though. The small middles are Dinafem Power Kush clones from the same guy, I'm giving one to another buddy. The back 3 are my Sativa Hybrid bunch, all topped for 4 colas. Left to right..Greenhouse Super Lemon Haze, Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough, and Barney's Farm G13 Haze. The two hazes responded very well to Uncle Bens top for 4 colas. All 4 branches have been growing great. The Cough on the other hand, grew the top 2 branches really strong, but the bottom 2 arent doing much. I guess well see. Cheers man. I'll update ya well some more excitement happens by me. Take care of that Kandy!

Those look nice Big. Weird that you ended up with another "nonauto" auto. If I do another regular plant next season It will probably be a Sativa dominant strain. I believe I have a Super Lemon Haze seed as well.

I received the email from RIU asking me to reconfirm my membership by allowing a 3rd party access to my info and obligating myself to receiving some B.S. newsletter. I probably won't reconfirm, as that makes absolutely no sense to me. I've read the thread devoted to answering questions on the matter, but most of the questions are being ignored. There are plenty of better sites out there I can become a member of that don't have a mandatory newsletter. This is just one of the things that have bugged me about this site.
