The games will still draw 100,000 loyal fans every week. And they still have a billion dollars in recumbent funds. Sadly there is always collateral damage in these situations. Husband goes to jail for murdering his wife, child goes into foster system. Unfortunate collateral but it always happens when people do these things.
Besides all the athletes are allowed to transfer scholarships without the normal one year penalty. Sure the other sport will take a hit, but whatever. There are hundreds of other schools for kids to go to. penn states rep is too tarnished now. It will take time for them to rebuild, but thats hat you get when you propagate an environment like they did at penn state.

They are not being punished at all, not one bit.
The players there on scholarship from red shirt freshman all the way up to seniors can transfer without penalty.
The players that stay can still play football and get a good education (that is supposed to be the focus).
How in the wide, wide, world of sports is that a punishment?
We are talking about a institution's failure to stop children from being raped.
In ten years when this will be pretty much forgotten, the victims of rape will still be struggling with the severe emotional and psychological issues.

Joe Paterno did not molest any boys. But he was involved in the cover up. A cover up which resulted in more molested boys.
I do not agree with the punishment because PlayPenn State got off too easy.
The Death Penalty was the only appropriate punishment for a program so corrupt that it would protect a child molester in order avoid embarrassing the institution.
Even the motherfucking Catholic Church could not pull that off.
SMU received the death penalty and the worst thing that program did was pay some of their players.
PlayPenn State should have to do what SMU was forced to do; celebrate homecoming for a fucking soccer game for two years.
Eliminate the program for two years, and then spend the next twenty-five years rebuilding.

That raises a very interesting point.
Every PlayPenn State victory between 1998 and 2011 was vacated.
Let's say some schlep bet big against PlayPenn State in 2011 when they played his alma mater. His team lost the game and he lost the bet. Now what? Are all bets off? Does he win?
I don't know enough to do anything but speculate. Does a vacated win mean that the opposing team is the victor? Or is there no victor at all?

Okay, I just went to a sports book forum and the question has come up.
Apparently the vacated win essentially means that both teams lost.
But it turns out that it's irrelevant anyway.
Because most gambling houses stipulate that the results used for the purposes of wagering are for game day only.

Vacating wins basically means that those in charge want to re-write history. It's a ridiculous thing that punishes the student athletes that poured their soul in to making those games happen, whether they won or lost. It's an insult to everyone that played on those teams since 1998.

I agree, re-writing history will not change or affect those that went through the abuse and it really does not affect Sandusky, JoePa or Penn State.
All involved should be in jail, pay 60+ million to those abused, and Penn State can play along in NCAA championship games next year; that's a fair deal

Called Victim 2 by the grand jury, the boy has not been identified or located. The next morning, McQueary telephoned Paterno and then went to Paterno's home to explain what he had seen. Paterno testified that he called Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley and met with Curley the following day, explaining that McQueary had reported seeing Sandusky involved in sexual activity with a young boy in the showers.
