400 yards?

maybe take better care of your equipment. you just killed 9 people trying to be a showoff.

take some responsibility and stop trying to blame innocent people. ;)
I think your both right. Obviously there is risk in everything, even crossing the street, but this sort of thing should NOT have happened. I have no idea what sort of mechanical safety checks were made to the plane before the show... but obviously somebody dropped the ball.

And wasn't the plane a P51? Perhaps planes that antiquated shouldn't be used for these high flying stunt shows?

now you make it about me?

you are defending the pilot and blaming those in the crowd for being there in the first place. at least that's what i'm seeing.

you're a pilot. your opinion is biased.

Well, it is about you isn't it? You're the one twisting my words.

I never blamed anyone (you love using that word) I simply said they should understand the risks associated with such acts.

Just as you understood the risks of showing off on your JetSki and look what happened to you, eh?

the day after the reno accident another pilot died in a crash at another air show in west virginia. no spectator deaths, though. me and a buddy were having a conversation about how infrequently planes crash and 5 minutes later we see reno story. i know wwII fighter planes and passenger jets are apples and oranges but it was still eerie.

There aren't your WWII P-51's... these planes have been completely stripped to the frame and all new parts.

Shit just happens, you've got learn to go on with it... next time hopefully it won't and maybe the maintenance crew will be a little more tedious and do their checks more often... but there's nothing that can be done to lessen the risks of these types of events.

it's an "awesome plane". and people should expect to die anyways.

Booooooring...

Shall we have tea? Or just kiss.

Oh, and yes... the Galloping Gal and Jimmy Leeward were two awesome influences in my life, he has helped more young kids get in to aviation than you know.

Who is blaming anyone?

Shit fucking happens dude, it's rare... how many times a day to people die in car wrecks vs. how many die a day in planes?

You're quite illogical today, aren't you... or maybe just argumentative... I'm honored.

you just contradicted your own statement within the same statement.

funny stuff. :)

I see it as a plane losing control at them speeds can hit anywhere.I guess the only thing you can do is warn people or make it only watchable on tv.

Not really, you can have the best maintenance team in the world and still have something go wrong... so there is ALWAYS a risk associated with these types of events.

Haha maybe ya'll can just agree to disagree. But yes, you could easily minimize the risk at these events by thoroughly inspecting every essential part on the plane to make sure everything is solid. It's one thing when I plane is just doing simple passenger duties... but the acrobatic maneuvers and extreme G forces at an airshow puts extreme stress on every single part of the plane, making failure more likely. So there is really no excuse for anything but the most thorough top to bottom mechanical/safety checks.

Okay, since you know all about the game here... how exactly can we lessen these risks?

Shall we build a bunker to house the spectators?

you are either stoned, stupid, or simply trolling.

Believe me LWL88, these planes spend days before the race getting checked...

At that time, I am more than sure the trim tab was secured, as it is a definite check during ALL preflights of most aircraft (trimming the aircraft is a constant duty of any pilot).

I am very interested to see what the NTSB comes up with.
