I'm part Slavic(50% Polish),so are Serbs,Czechs,Slovacs,Bulgarians, etc.,while I understand the historical the historical ties w/Ukraine/Russia a little, the Russians have always looked down on them,Stalin even tried to starve them out and the majority of Ukraine wants complete independence from Russia.I grant that in Eastern Ukraine a good amount of people identify w/Russia and also I know Russia ceded Crimea to Ukraine in the Soviet days when it was just a formality. Crimea is a very vexing issue and is key as it controls the Black Sea and without it Russia is screwed in power projection. This whole thing is a nightmare and Putin has staked his political survival on it while he sits on the world's largest inventory of nukes. Negotiation is the only option to resolve this and both sides are doubled down on complete victory. A complete defeat of Russia without nukes being unleashed is a pipe dream IMO,especially w/Putin alive and calling the shots, initial hopes of a coup in light of the abject failure of the initial invasion have sadly been dashed. In our justifiable hopes for a Russian defeat we seem to be overlooking the end game,we certainly can't have Russia conquer and control the whole Ukranian state while also understanding a complete Russian defeat looms ominous. It's going to take a hell of a mediation process to foster a final result agreeable to both sides that ends this while also preventing future hostility,in the absence of Putin being overthrown (the window seems closed),Good luck.
It's simple, all they have to do is leave all of Ukraine to have peace, if Vlad has to die for it to happen, too bad Vlad. Nobody will invade Russia, there is no external existential threat, they made a grab for turf and it failed catastrophically. They are just gonna have to get over it or commit national suicide by trying to use a nuke while being watched like a hawk. Using a nuke in Ukraine would see them become a nuclear power themselves one day, they signed them away for a peace agreement that was broken on multiple occasions. Either they would have their own or Uncle Sam would have them 300km from Moscow on the Ukrainian border after cutting a deal.

Vlad is in a trap of his own creation and is about to repeat his original mistake by attacking in mud season again, or being forced to. This time he is betting the farm on a desperate roll of the dice and if he loses, he might find a window to fly out of. Even if Vlad is gone, the sanctions will remain until there is regime and an attitude change in Russia, but they must be out of Ukraine and perhaps Georgia to have peace. Then there is the question of Belarus, effectively under Russian occupation and propping up Lukashenko, who's army refused to invade Ukraine repeatedly.

So, let me get this straight..the Chinese expect us to believe it's a tech billionaires weather balloon that went off course?

Isn't anything Chinese within American airspace an act of war?

It should've been shot down when I first posted..would China be as kind to America if the situation were reversed?

Oh here's Xi now let's ask..every face, same face.

View attachment 5256037

China gets touchy over the least faux pas, yet here we are..what would China have done by now?

While we were the good Dems, Trump became dictator.

We get anywhere near their airspace or water; they're quick to let us know by force.
That's for sure,China goes absolutely ballistic at the slightest infringement, their navy and air force use provocative maneuvers even when we are in disputed territory that is not accepted world wide as sovereign territory, reckless and maddening IMO, especially for a newbie military power w/a severe lack of recent experience, big balls and over confident IMO.

there won't be any remediation for a while yet...not until putin is marching naked men armed with broken branches into war. as long as he can find clothes to stuff them into and rusty broken weapons he has no ammo for, he'll keep marching them across the border to die.
i sincerely hope the russians are stupid enough to amass half a million men on the border, because then the Ukrainian can start killing them before they even enter Ukraine...they could kill most of them with artillery, without ever having to face them.

Putin’s Men Fear ‘Minced Meat’ Fate in New Offensive

BRACE FOR IT
Moscow’s attempt to regroup and launch a major offensive this year is allegedly in dire straits.

Russia’s military is preparing for heavy losses ahead in a new offensive, according to a source apparently stationed at a Russian military headquarters in Ukraine, Novaya Gazeta reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing to send tens of thousands of men to war in Ukraine knowing very well that he is going to make them into “minced meat,” the source said.

The source accused the Russian military of not taking any dangers of the offensive into account and predicted that the offensive would come at a massive cost.

The warning coincides with U.S. and other western officials warning that Russia is preparing to launch a new onslaught of offensive operations in the new year. Ukrainian intelligence has assessed that Putin has ordered the Russian commander of troops in Ukraine to seize all of Donbas by the end of this month.

Already, there are indications that Russia is in dire straits in its attempts to regroup and launch a new offensive, and aware that there may be some resistance to mobilization. British intelligence assessed last month that Putin is struggling to come up with new ways to mobilize more personnel to the front without causing domestic dissent over the war to grow. Putin ordered a mobilization of 300,000 last year and may be relying on more call-ups under those orders soon, the British intelligence assessment stated.

The goal of minimizing dissent appears to be bumping up against battlefield planning, though. The window of opportunity for Russia to make any gains in Ukraine is closing soon, the Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupshis, warned, adding that “even a blind man can see that they are preparing for the next wave of offensive” in an interview with Novaya Gazeta.

Russia will be less able to secure battlefield wins the longer it waits to launch its offensive, especially as more western nations work to crank up their military aid to Ukraine, Rupshis said in an interview with Guildhall published Friday.

“The Russians understand that if they do not launch an offensive now, it will be too late by the end of spring,” Rupshis said, warning that all signs point to Russia preparing for a new offensive.

Satellite imagery analysis shared exclusively with The Daily Beast in recent days shows Russia has been building up a layered network of fortifications in order to try to hold onto the eastern Ukrainian territory it has already gained in Donetsk and Luhansk. Some of the imagery suggests Russia might be trying to go on the offensive to gain more territory as well, analysts said.

Andriy Chernyak, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, said this week that Ukrainian intelligence continues to assess that Russia wants to take all of the Donbas by March.

“We’ve observed that the Russian occupation forces are redeploying additional assault groups, units, weapons, and military equipment to the east,” Cherniak told The Kyiv Post. In some ways Russia has already begun offensive campaigns in eastern Ukraine to that effect, Cherniak warned.

“Even today, we are already seeing such actions in the Luhansk and Donetsk directions,” Cherniak said. “That is, the offensive is underway.”

Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces warned that Russia was continuing to conduct attacks throughout Ukraine Friday.

“There is a great danger of further Russian aviation and missile strikes across Ukraine,” Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces spokesperson said.

Already, Russia’s military operations on the ground are not going well, though, according to Ukraine’s military. Russia is running “offensive actions” in the Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdiiv, and Novopavlivsky directions, but is “suffering major losses in personnel and military equipment,” the spokesperson said Friday in a brief. “The opponent continues to suffer losses.”

I forget the name of the stuff catalytic converters are made with, but the majority of it comes from the Ukraine. So what pay some defenseless poor farmers for it when your buddy Putin can take it from them you.
They choose to kill people instead developing a peaceful solution to a problem that’s growing quicker than they can solve it.
Having all the palladium in the world isn’t going to fix what’s going on right now. Thats because the only thing war and palladium will fix is greedy peoples pockets.
Maybe they will figure it out before it’s too late. FYI, That rocket isn’t going to be big enough to carry everyone.
You want to know what’s really messed up….they got Putin out there fighting basically with sticks and stones. Hell the Ukrainian farmers have those. Putin should feel stupid as he further weaken the Russian state. It just shows you what’s happens when a country is left starving. Just ask Kim Jong Un
the major producer of palladium is Norilsk Nickel in northern Siberia. You made a poor first showing.

At the rate EVs are being introduced, how long will catalytic converters be required? At what point is supply met by recycling old converters?
There is a distinction between being introduced and being adopted. I anticipate several decades before unsubsidized breakeven. Shorter if we can practically and cheaply generate terawatts via fusion.

Poor showing because I didn’t agree with you? Or because your browser didn’t take you to the same source material as mine. That time looking for a source of criticism may have been better spent comprehending that I didnt single out palladium because it is but one of the materials used in catalytic converters. Gold, platinum, rhodium, and palladium are all used.
Peace brothers as I will overlook the esteem issues and move forward as I try to make new friends.

At the rate of conversion and battery factory construction, they should be making inroads into the ICE market in 5 years and much more in a decade. The diesel is likely to outlive the gasoline engine, but my point was, if these things are nearly 100% recycled, how long before recycled materials make up the bulk of new converters? It is the demand shift that is of interest and even 30% of cars on the road as EVs could affect that, especially if most new cars being produced don't need a converter. Many places are gonna ban new ICE car sales in 7 years.

I’m not sure what they’re called, but Russian penal battalions are two-layered. Up front you got the poor underequipped shmoes with orders not to take one step back. Behind them you have well-equipped battalions tasked with gunning down any who attempt retreat or surrender. (They have a euphemistic name that I am not recalling.)

I surely hope that the Ukrainians are given the forward reconnaissance and precision-strike assets to selectively take out the enforcement battalions. Otherwise they are playing into the Russian program of atrocity.

Then accept the surrender of the poor schmoes.

The other PGMs are collocated in Siberia, Canada and a few other ore bodies. Gold is not used in converters.

(add) I do not oppose you. I ask that you not post moo plop as fact.

Current batteries are not good enough. I discount Popular Mechanics vaporware.

Oh I'm sure the Ukrainians have them selected for special treatment, right behind the officers and whip crackers. Mortars and artillery can reach them and drones can spot and bomb them, they are worth more than the suckers at the front. It looks like Vlad has been strategically maneuvered into repeating his first mistake, attacking at the beginning of mud season. The timing of the new tanks could not have been better, with Vlad massing untrained, ill equipped and unprepared armies for an offensive he must conduct before the new arms arrive for the Ukrainians. Most of the fighting should happen during mud season, heavily favoring the defenders and confining Russian armor to the roads.

There are more than Li-on batteries being produced now and ramping up production, LFP and sodium are among them, both will serve for cheap EVs and sold state batteries are entering production now too. Improvements are not only possible, but have been demonstrated, I figure by 2025 most of these new first generation battery factories will be up and running with mass production of several types, I've posted articles in the climate change thread that support this contention. I figure demand for elements used in catalytic converts should drop, due to diminishing demand and recycled materials playing a larger roll in diminishing new ICE production. Not as many will be required moving forward, nobody needs to sell the public on EVs, demand is outpacing production currently by a wide margin, hence the battery factories and alternative chemistries. There will still be lot's of ICE vehicles on the road for another decade or more. However there will be a steadily increasing percentage of EVs and fewer new ICE vehicles produced that require converters and hybrids probably require a smaller one than a regular ICE car.

how can they be right behind themselves?

In terms of priority targets, they act as ushers to the slaughter house too, as well as guard it's doors. Officers have learned to make themselves scarce at the front and move a lot if they want to live. All those fools charging forward are not being led and directed by anybody, so no tactics can be employed by them. They are just herded to the front with guns at their backs, a group of strangers, ill equipped and with no training or unit cohesion. It's the ones who know what is going on to their rear the Ukrainians want to target, they likely have more experience and training and are more dangerous.

I understand that you Need intellectual support and you use google, bing, or whatever browser to find it.
By furthering this conversation, I’ll show how the information of internet is easily manipulated. When I looked for reasoning behind the Russian, Ukrainian war, I first looked at what natural resources that Ukraine had to exploit. Any act of war between the 2 countries do not make logical sense becomes they are essentially the same people.
The internet provided evidence by showing that the Ukrainian led the world in rhodium by producing I want to say 80%. However I think I read it was more like 90%.
This made perfect sense because it explains why no one has came to aid of this virtually defenseless country. And why would they. Russia hasn’t been a super power since the first McDonald’s was placed on its soil. Which is evidence of an economic alliance. Also evidence of defeat. Pay close to attention to that last statement as you see china is now doing the same thing to the United States.
anyway repeating internet finding as the gospel is about as credible and that 27% thc label on those packs of seeds. Just as easy as the name of those seeds packs can be changed, so is the information available on the internet. You forget who owns it. Anyway brother I respect your finding as I found the same thing. I assure you those finding wasn’t the same as when I first looked in to the reasoning behind such a senseless act of genocide because that’s all it is. No witness, no crime.
If you need simplicity, the possession of the “air cleaning material” may dictate a future of those who breathe clean air, as opposed to those who continue to inhale toxic substances.
It’s evidence that either someone is scared, or that they have a darker plan for the future.
Maybe you misunderstood when I said those ships aren’t able to carry every one. Rather on land or underground, or under the sea or in the outer reaches of the atmosphere, they will need to be able to clean the air that they breathe is they plan on continuing to live. Mission to Mars. US partners with Russian aboard the international space station. Come on brother and think. Covid inhibits cognitive function. All this taking place at the same time the ice is breaking off…. Melting….. flood… space x. They left a trail that points directly at them. So now they are trying to clean up their tracks. “Clean” lol…But it ain’t funny.
I suggest a quiet place and maybe a glass of wine or 2 if the smoke isn’t enough to let you see. Any way peace brother, brothers as we are all in this together. Let’s help each other. Maybe someone has some friends in that area that can substantiate our knowledge.
