Who the fuck asked them to become a "source" of laws? Did they check whoever it was for obvious head wounds?

Looks like Germany is atoning for its sins and maybe they might want a piece of those Ukrainian NG and oil resources. With increased use of renewables, EVs and heat pumps, Ukraine could keep the EU and German industry going for a long time when they are developed. Nobody will be going back to Russian energy anytime soon and without maintenance and western help their energy infrastructure is deteriorating quickly, and it would be cheaper and faster to just start over again in Ukraine.

I would not be surprised if China and India become Russia’s biggest petroleum customers. They’re in a position to drive a pretty hard bargain.

Where to route the pipelines becomes interesting; lotsa very rugged terrain between Russia and those two.

Places like Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are much closer, and Turkmenistan has methane leaking out in vast quantities and I posted about it on the Climate change thread. Maybe that's why bonehead Girkin was talking about attacking Kazakhstan which sits north of a half dozen stans most of which are rich in petroleum or other minerals. Ukraine can meet Europe's energy needs as it transitions to renewables and EVs and provide petrochemical feed stocks and industrial gas for a long time. Likewise, the stans around the Caspian Sea are closer to the markets and have plenty of oil and gas. Russia looks fucked to me and will lose their markets to other former Soviet republics over the next decade. I expect the markets for a lot of fossil fuels will begin to dry up in a decade with the advent of renewables, energy storage, EVs and heat pumps. It should put a dent in the gasoline and NG markets first with EVs and heat pump conversions. Many places including here, are offering government incentives to convert to heat pumps from oil, NG, or electric resistance heating.

The central Asian republics are all on the same side of all those really high mountains as Russia. Routing a pipeline to either India or China is still an interesting logistical exercise.

They would need to avoid Pakistan and Afghanistan, but it is much easier than building a railway or a highway and 3- or 4-meter diameter tunnels would be easier to build for pipelines. However, China is leading the world in converting to green technology and hoping to capture a large part of the global market. So, big long-term investments for such infrastructure might not be seen as viable in that region. A new pipeline across most of Ukraine and Poland brings Ukrainian NG into the heart of Europe. There are also existing pipelines and gas processing capacity in Ukraine already and one reason Vlad struck them in 2014 was to destabilize the country and stop the development of their resources. Much of the Ukrainian NG reserves are in the northwestern Black Sea, and will require the removal of Russia from Crimea to exploit. One big advantage of developing Ukrainian gas and oil for the EU is the money they spend on energy is also used for their defense, as a prosperous country Ukraine would be armed to the teeth! They get double value for their money and Ukraine also buys weapons from them as a bonus.

SA is kleptocracy that is so corrupt and incompetent they can't even keep the lights on in the country, they are even worse for corruption than Russia where they can at least keep the lights on. So, this deal with arms lined somebody's pocket and they are powerful corrupt people in SA.

Many decades ago they managed to punch a pipeline through the Canadian Rockies from southern Alberta out to Burnaby, BC next door to Vancouver and right now they are doing it again so it's not impossible.

To anyone who has never made a trip through the Rockies but may someday I strongly suggest they stay in Calgary then leave pre-dawn for Banff. There is a spot on the highway where you come over a rise and there is a wall of peaks that reach from as far south as you can see down into the states then goes as far north as you can see. On a clear day you can see for a long, long way in both directions and tho I've seen it dozens of times it still takes my breath away every time I see it. All lit up in the morning sun it is spectacular! Highway 1A is more scenic than Hwy 1 and only about 10 min longer.



Bring lots of cash to do a lot of things in Banff and Jasper tho plenty to do and see for free. Rent a canoe at Lake Louse, $125 a freakin' hour FFS!
