I thought you can have a MH conversion bulb running off a HPS ballast, but not a HPS bulb running off a MH ballast - there is no ignitor :/
they have hps conversion bulbs, they have a built in ignition which in turn lowers the wattage of light. they stopped producing the 1000w hps conversion bulbs cause they had WAY too many problems, i believe i had one of the last about 2 years ago they where made by plantmax.

TBH tho, its so simple and cheap to add an ignitor and even a toggle switch i would got that route before looking at conversion bulbs, simply because you loose light output.

I vegged mine for about a month in only 5000K CFLs bulbs for my 1st grow. I did not mix them for flower, switched over to 2700K CFLs only. You tempt me into leaving 1-2 5000K bulbs up when I switch this time around....
