Yea, I like to give them the first 1/3-1/2 of the jug directly into the runoff tray, then let them suck that up before top-watering. That way you know the root zone at the bottom of the pot is getting plenty to drink, and any runoff is truly "extra". I'm guessing even if you are bleeding water...

RH= Relative Humidity I use the 5gal fabric pots, I find they can hold a gallon each when the medium is dry ( sunshine #4) before getting much runoff. Is it possible you are pouring too fast, causing the water to bleed out the sides prematurely?
