This might be a "too much information" story, and it's certainly off-topic, but when my wife and I were much younger and newly married, we found a long, short dresser with a mirror top at a thrift store. It was a hideous-looking thing, with beat-up, fake velvet upholstery covering every square...

    Cannabis Daily Light Integral

Well if you have any doubt that LED can grow bats, look at the "From DEs to LEDs" thread by @greengrassgrower1. But personally - though I don't want airy larf - I just can't give a shit about bud size. Does it taste good, and is it effective medicine? That's what counts to me. But I'm not...

    DIY with Quantum Boards

I don't have any QB132s, but I can four 120s at more than 250w all day long and still they don't get hot.

Diy FOTOP grow board 280x900x2.0mm (L29.52"xW9.18")

Why don't you like having more space between the diodes? As long as the total power is appropriate to the space, having more space between the diodes can only be a good thing, because it means better heat dissipation.

    Not with QB120s (60w) or QB132s (75w); neither needs a heatsink.

Fucking rad, brother. I do love a good QB120 build (as you can tell from my avatar)!

-boring 'ol 230w 154lm/w led strip build

You don't think watts per square foot can be meaningful when comparing the same light source? Such as LM561C vs LM561C (one person's strip or QB build compared to another's)? I get what you're saying as it pertains to a comparison between one of these TCI strips and a new Samsung strip - if the...

I'll put it this way - most people here shoot for about 30 watts per square foot. When I've tried to run my QBs at 40w/sq ft, my plants get toasted.

Good deal on led bulbs at Lowe's

Most of the COB builds I see here don't use reflectors or lenses, so that's why I ask.

But why make reflectors? Do you think they're really needed?

$500 is more than enough. One of the 260w Quantum Board kits would fill that space nicely (actually, it's a little overpowered, but you can dim it), and pre-assembled would still be under $400.

If you're intimidated by more involved DIY, I'd recommend Quantum Boards. Easiest by far. You have the option of a kit, which is as simple as plugging in a few wires and drilling a few screws, or you can buy all the parts separately, which is more work than a kit, but still not too difficult...

    From DEs to LEDs

Yeah, man, it's an inspiring grow. It's all well and good when we LED guys talk specs and the underlying science, but it's results like these that can really show our HID-brethren what COBs/QBs/strips are truly capable of.

I find the pink to be quite the eyesore. I certainly wouldn't want to look in my grow space and see that every day.

The layout of the strips on this fixture goes against the belief (prevalent on this forum) that for greater uniformity, the strips should actually not be equidistant from each other. Hmm... Interesting.

any one running 2700k with 6500k

I just don't see any reason for it. Straight 3000k or 3500k just works too damn well.

    DIY with Quantum Boards

Yeah, that's a tough one. Especially if you've got growing under HID really dialed in. But look at it this way - once you get LED dialed in, you'll still be better off than you were, even if the next generation of LED blows this one out of the water.
