175 mh????

im a newbie an trying a 175 watt mh for my first grow??? any suggestions???? doing ok so far??? just wanting any info from experinced growers...

you can grow one plant with that amount of power.

I run six plants with 800W

better than nothing I guess. standard MH (which that almost certainely is) has a very poor reaction with plants. 6500 K cfls are best for a low watt grow.

frmboi raises an important issue. Is your MH a grow light rated 6500K color temp or is it the kind sold for lighting which is usually around 4000K and not nearly as effective. If yours is not a grow bulb I suggest you buy one. They aren't very expensive.

Love my old magnetic ballest 175w MH lights.
I run a 150 HPS conversion bulb an a 145 w CMH bulb in my cab.

But they MUST be very close to be effective!With in a foot of the canopy.
SCROG or SOG are best for them IMHO.
I vent the heat or this wouldn't be possible, they would burn em.

I used a 175MH for my veg with 4 42w CFLS. I had 3 plants and 1 Auto and they grew nice and bushy but nothing to brag about. If your using it for 1 plant im sure your results will beat mine by far. Although for flowering you might want to get more then a 175. And obv switch to HPS...lol( sure you knew that just lookin out)

ok...thanks guys..I took a female plant I started late n the year from outside in an its about a 1' tall (I topped it after it was flowering) I have a 27 watt cfl along with a 4' shop flouro (daylight bulbs) on it as well. I've got the top in a solo cup with take root an its growing nicely as well! an Ive got 2 more seedlings started about an 1-2" tall.. Ive got a 100 watt hps coming. I know ive not got the right lighting but im new @ this????????? my room is 4x3 with mylar about 6' tall one 6" fan??? will this cobbled combination work??? lol thanks guys!!! you guys r growing the SHITTTTTTT!!!! wanna learn!!!

Get those flourescet lights as close as possible!
I'd stand it up vertical.

i vegged 6 plants under a mh 150, it was a waste plants where small took a long time .... I have heard and im going to try it on my next grow but some people say you can veg under high power hps

how many plants are you going for?

I'm just experimenting, I've got a Mama an topped it an have the main cola cloned an it's finally took off like crazy! An I've got a couple more sprouts started a couple inches tall an they r leafing out nicely! I added 2 26 Watt cfls as well an keeping all of the lights close. I have 4 all together, 1 Mama, 1 clone ( the top off Mama ) an 2 sprouts ...

You can veg on HPS. A lot of people just use one HPS lamp for the whole grow. I used to do that until I set up a separate veg cab.

I've been vegging under cfls in my veg cab and I was disappointed with the results. Nice tight nodes but slow growth. I put in a 150MH and they took off. I have a 250W MH ballast kit & bulb on order.
