Actually Beginning of Day 12, not beginning -- edit won't let me correct title :(

The good news is all the plants are improving, 3 are showing normal growth and the other 2 are attempting to recover. The bad news is that ogk may be too far gone to survive or there is something really wrong with the soil she's in. She looks burned to shit to me. They got watered today. OGK got a little extra to try and fix the soil. pH 6.7. I've got tea brewing for the next watering - just mild wormcasting tea.

A13 #1 - She is the classy sexy bitch of this bunch so far. Sure hope it's a girl.
a11-1-11.jpg
a11-1-11-side.jpg

A13 #2 - Regreening - those new leaves were the color of the edges a day or two ago.
a11-2-11.jpg

MM #1 - Locked out but getting better -- new growth looks very good
mm-1-11.jpg
mm-1-11-side.jpg

MM #2 - Like A13 #2 she is regreening. Those top leaves were the color of the interior edges uniformly up until today
mm-2-11.jpg
mm-2-11-side.jpg

OG Kush - Never had a plant this young get this bad and survive. She was definitely greener yesterday than the day before and greener today than yesterday, but it may be too little too late. I am thinking if she doesn't make it whether I am going to pop the other OG K bean or something else (maybe HP x G13 or more MM/A13 to up chances for a female)

All the plants except OGK showing signs of healthy growth. MM#2 really taking off today and trying to catch up to a13#1 and mm#1. a13#2 still lagging behind but has perked up. OGK doesn't really seem to show any improvement today. I think she is dieing and too small to recover and I think I'm just going to pop a bean or two in to germ tonight to replace her. Now the debate begins on what.

I'm thinking either a) 1 more a13 & 1 more MM to increase my chances of having a female of each variety and potentially more than one to choose from b) pop the other OGK bean (gone but not forgotten), c) pop a couple G13xHashplant, d) pop a couple of Serious White Russians.

Hard call there. Since you already have two strains going you might have mystery seeds if you let them go to seed.

Guess it depends on priorities on which strain is most important to you

I'm not really worried about seeds (at least yet -- other than keeping them out).

I did a minor surgery on the OGK. I figured since the rest are recovering and she isn't there's probably something really funky with the soil she's in so I took her out of the soil and rinsed the roots with ph adjusted water with superthrive in it. I then put it in fresh soil (just light warrior, none of the old stuff now) and watered thoroughly with more water with superthrive. We'll see what happens. At this point I've pretty much written that one off since she's so sick.

Just decided what to do and already took the plunge so I can't change my mind ;) I went ahead and put in the all 3 of my Serious White Russian, all 3 Mr. Nice G13xHashplant, my last OG Kush, my last 2 medicine mans and 2 more Apollo 13s -- I'll have 6 more apollo beans to sprout after this in case I don't find a keeper or I want to get a male to do some seed making for a cross. I decided what I am going to do is build a clone/seedling/mom chamber at the end of veg and take clones of all the plants after they've been sexed. Then I will pick the most vigorous female available of each strain and flower it -- may not have room for all strains this round we'll see. I am wanting to find an apollo keeper, so having 4 total should assure me of at least getting 1 female if not more than one to choose from (I averaged around 70-80% females on previous grows so 3 wouldn't be out of the question). Plus I want to work my way through these apollos so I have a justification to order some more TGA seeds -- already planning on getting TGA Cheese Quake & Ace of Spades (to start with) when I do my next seed buy. Who knows what else. I'm pretty sure between the 4 strains I'll be flowering out at least one of them is going to knock my dick in the dirt. Let's take bets, shall we?

I got a couple of gallons of casting tea brewing still... right now the ph is around 3.4 (?!?!?) after just over 24 hours... I think it's still in the fungal stage though once it gets to turning into bacteria soup it should go to 6.5... it started out in spring water that was around 6.3 with no adjusting (yea ozarka!!) -- once it gets to 6.5 it's feeding time for the girls.

So I checked 2 or 3 of the plants roots today by turning them upside down and popping them out. Of the ones I checked, only OGK had a long tap root. The plants that were doing best had a decent root system in the upper 2-3" of the cups. The roots had spread laterally but not down below about 2".

So wondering why the roots aren't stretching down.... it's the same soil below. The only difference is those plant success tabs (about 1-2" from bottom of cup)... I wonder if those are responsible for the high soil pH at the bottom? They said they were safe to use even at seed stage so not sure why they would be a problem. Or could it be the foxfarm light warrior being so airy? In an attempt to help adjust the soil further and get them to stretch, I did a bottom up watering with some 6.7 pH water w/ superthrive. I watered to about the level of where the roots were reaching to so that they should have a small portion get some water at the bottom but they'd need to stretch down to get the rest. Figure that should additionally continue to help the soil level back down to closer to 6.5 and away from 8... if the roots keep behaving this way and don't stretch down now that they're growing healthier I may repot them again in a few days and only use the soil around the root ball. Even the very healthiest apollo was developing a good root system but only to that level below the top -- that does not seem normal to me have not seen that before.

pop them all and let god sort them out ;)

If they don't get dry the roots dont go down searching for water. I did that once. I'm assuming that's not your problem though. Can't help you as I haven't done soil or those tabs.

How long before you plan to order again? A couple months or sooner? I'm wanting to get the void and agent orange myself. I've got other stuff here to pop so I'm not in a hurry but still on my list. Just hate $25 shipping or whatever it's at now.

So are you building a new cab for mothers/clones or what?

Yeah I know the not searching for water is possible that's why I bottom up watered so only the areas of soil without a good developed root system has water in it :) Figure it will help fix the problem whichever it is. I will probably wait until this first round's harvest before I make another seed purchase I'm guessing. I won't even be able to flower all the females this round -- what kind of results I see will probably decide... if this batch is just awesome I may focus on working with what i've got for now... if i still feel like it's lacking I'm probably going to feel the urge to get more. They're all high quality genetics so there's the potential for every strain to have a keeper. white russian and medicine man are both supposed to be over 20% thc. apollo is 17-18% and i'm guessing OG Kush and g13xhp is somewhere in the range of those strains as well. Very interested in cheese quake for the 4% CBD though and high THC-A -- I may just have to order a single pack of that soon only because I doubt the genetics I have now are a similar profile.

As far as the new cab not sure I may do a craigs list retrofit again. I'd be tempted to do a big PC box but I don't think that would be enough space for all the females I'm going to have until I narrow down the pool. I'm thinking about maybe getting a fish tank and putting that on top - the sound would help cover up the sound the other grow equipment makes and it'd make for something pretty to look at in addition to my plants when I'm in my mancave :)

If the mom chamber is big enough to keep the moms and clones/seedlings in through early stage then I can cut down my veg time even further and get more harvests in, especially once I start going from clone...

Can't wait to see the pretty girls in there under the HPS and a blackstar LED light flowering their asses off.

Yeah I've been doing all my watering as bottom feeding. The water doesn't get sucked all the way up to the top in the 2 liter bottles when in 4 inches of water.

FYI your link says Apollo 18.

Definitely sounds like an interesting profile on the cheese quake. I forget it's lineage. I've got a cheese cross here but no idea on profiles. What's thc-a suppossed to do?

Yeah but an aquarium is just that much more work you got to do.

Two weeks in. It's been quite the journey already a lot going on in the personal life as well. All the plants are improving now. Even OG Kush has decided that after my transplant it has decided to live. New green growth and more regreening, although the old growth is mostly toast. Of course now she's going to have a sibling to contend with. This OGK has a strike against her in the hardiness category.

It looks to me like there is a little heat stress still. Getting drier faster than it should and see the symptoms in the leaves. Cab is getting a little hot when the doors are shut and the room is shut, but not too hot.

A13 #2 is looking a lot better but not improving as fast as the others... if it does not make some more marked improvements/new deeper green growth before the tea is ready i may do a similar transplant as I did with the OGK, which is now showing better new growth at the shoots than the a13 #2 has. A13 #1, MM #1 & MM #2 all looking solid.

Everyone's looking smashing. A13 #1, that bad ass bitch, is growin' her side branches now they have extended out from the stalk like 1/4-1/2". MM#1 has sprouted her side branch leaves but they haven't really extended yet. MM#3 just budding those and a13#2 still not quite there yet but should be soon. OGK still tryin' to survive her new growth is fairly green though not that dark, healthy green I like to keep my plants (like my 3 that are growing really well are). She's still trying to stretch a new leafset to get enough energy to grow at a faster rate since I'm sure she is not getting much photosynthesis out of those jacked up leaves that have greened a little in the center but are probably going to die as soon as the plant has other leaves it can survive on... a13#2 still growing and the growth is green, but not the same depth of green the 3 healthy girls are at... will make a judgement call later when I water on what to do with her. I will probably transplant her though based on how much the OGK improved almost immediately.

Germ update - OG Kush #2 is in the ground. She's the only one that had a strong taproot. I did a little expirimenting with the light warrior - I wanted to make the mix a bit heavier and more water absorbent for young seedlings (and my grow box). So I ended up mixing about 2/3 light warrior, 1/3 wormcastings, and the rest in coco coir. I think it turned out pretty well -- we'll see.

Stirred my super soil today. It looks awesome. No cobwebs, but it basically looks like really good topsoil from a farm with perlite added in. Looks like the probably the best mix of any I'll have grown in as far as the right consistency for growing good mj. A lot of my custom mixes have ended up being too heavy or light... super soil looks just right.

DAMN!!!! Just saw subcool quoted one of my posts on the latest weed nerd episode ("fem seeds are for pussies"). Fucking sweet. Needless to say, which of my seeds has had the most problems? The fem :) But I only got this seed in fem form because it is unavailable in regular seed form as far as I know. No choice -- I'd rather get a really solid clone of it, but here in Texas that is not a fucking option. Although now that I have a friend in Cali and am considering moving out to the left coast (god help me what i will do for my love of weed ;) ) i will probably make a trip sometime this year again and may bring some clones back if I can find a good place to get them or maybe even if i happen to get to know a cali grower here... will probably travel up to oregon and washington as well to scope those out as potential places to live since I'm considering CA, OR, WA and CO. CO is most likely though since I have family there. I like colorado ok. Cali has it's obvious benefits but also some drawbacks (dui checkpoints and blood draws? fuck that shit). I'd like to find the sweet spot that I'm not going to have any legal issues at. :)

For the ones that are healthy, how long are you planning on keeping them in the cups before you transplant?

I agree with everything you said about getting out west. I used to live in Portland, Oregon years back and now I can't go a full day without scheming on how to get back there. Colorado is a great place too, but I like to be close to the ocean.. ex-Navy.

Hey, is your Super Soil container vented? I left the lid on mine the first week and it started smelling pretty funky. Since then I've been leaving a little space for air to get in and the funk is gone, smells very bright and clean.

I didn't know Cali did blood like austin. Loved the landscape hated the people. Got friends in Portland and Seattle but too cold for me.I think Arizona would be best for me. But I'm staying put I believe.

What was your rating? I did a short stint as a nuke mm

I was a Fire Controlman. More specifically I was a Phalanx CIWS Tech.. the R2D2 with a hard-on that's on almost every surface ship. I work with a bunch of Nuke EMs and MMs these days, but in a totally different setting.

Portland's actually pretty mild throughout the year, and if you go towards the middle of the state you're in the high desert. My personal opinion here, but if you're into the outdoors and geography, dramatic landscapes.. Oregon is the place to be.

Yeah I want to go see it. For me 70 degrees is cold. So other people's mild is usually cold to me.

I'm jealous. I want a couple of those for property protection.

No ET's in there with you? Nukes tend to be a strange bunch but those ET's really take the cake.

I'm into big hills but not mountains... would love to live at the top of a hill. I like to climb and explore but not vertically with equipment. From what I've heard of Portland it sounds a little like Austin so it is definitely on my list of places to check out. I don't mind cold. My wife does but she'd like the west coast better than colorado I'm sure. I would definitely like to live someplace with milder/wetter summers and more of a winter than austin.

I'm going to keep them in the cups until the roots grow down into the bottom and are about to get rootbound. They'll grow faster and put out bigger leaves probably if I transplant it into something bigger sooner, but since I'm starting new seeds I am not going to mind if these give the newbies a little bit of a chance to catch up. I want to get these guys to finish ASAP, but supply for me is not an issue so i'm not in a super rush either. Shit if anything I got too much thanks to my kind bud from cali who's gonna come visit in a couple of months and bring me some of his latest hopefully (trying to talk him into a clone swap -- i may trade him for some of my seeds).

I just gave them them their first watering with some Pure Blend, which is actually rated about the same as a compost tea as far as strength so sure it's not going to burn them (all <1 n-p-k and I gave the lightest dose). My tea is still hanging around in the mid 3 pH range after almost 3 days (!?) -- it is getting bubblier/frothier today though so hopefully soon. Tea is a lot cheaper than pure blend, but pure blend's a lot easier.... they're gonna be ready for fish emulsion soon.

I went ahead and transplanted into my new mix (back into the same cup) -- dumped the old soil outside of the root ball but didn't wash the dirt off in the rootball (see pic). Only a13#1 was really putting some serious roots down.. the others had barely progressed and a13#2 definitely not greening up the way it should. Since the pH was so high in the bottom of the cups last time i measured, guessing the roots don't want to grow into a bad environment. Hopefully the new soil will both retain water better and won't have a crappy pH since they'll always get water between 6.3 and 6.8.

Apollo 13#2
- Not greening up further

Medicine Man #2 - better but progressing a bit slowly.. just decided to dump the old stuff like I did with a13#2

A lot of people get turned off by the NW because of the rains. Honestly though for the most part it's a constant drizzle/sprinkle fall through spring, with some infrequent ice/snow. Higher elevations get a lot of snow. The summers are absolutely perfect! Portland has a lot of hills and vistas. One of my favorite spots in the world..

Beautiful shot. I was sending photos of my veggie garden producing crops while it was still too cold to plant up there

Nice view! I don't mind the rain, and coming from an extreme drought location that has water restrictions every few years, bring it on. I would like to do a little outdoor growing if I can but my focus is on indoor.

Anyone the video on Tosh.0 the other day of a guy smoking weed through a freshly caught fish he made a bong out of? I wonder how long til someone turns a body part into a bong? Come smoke my dong bong? I'm just saying.
