Nirvana Northern Lights seeds came!
Picked up Grow Big - Fox farms veg nute
Going to be getting my NL seeds germing..they will be the first seeds done right.
I have the fox farms ocean forest that they will go in
Correct 3 gallon planters from the grow shop
grow big fox farms nutes
Now that I know what I am doing a bit more I think the NL's should grow like weeds!
P.S. They are regular not feminized. I will prob germ 5 instead of all 10 in case I screw something up.
I will trash males when its time, however I might keep 1 and fertilize a bud or 2 to get some seeds in case I screw up cloning.

just browsed throught the thread im liking the whole setup man. i just thought id let you know those jiffy pot things suck. and i hope you realized that already. i used them for one of my first grows and it worked out alright, but when i pulled out the taproot the whole cup was still there! all the roots grew out of the hole in the bottom. and couldnt penetrate the walls. and i had a little trouble with mold on the outside of the pots when i watered them too. now i just use solo cups and its alot easier.

im singed up and feel free to check out my thread https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/322731-my-first-journl-4-weeks-post4065034.html#post4065034

Jiffy pods/pots are just peat. You know; dirt. They're fantastic tools. Any plant's roots can penetrate moist peat. You pulled out the taproot? Man what are you doing to your plants! Just put the pot in dirt and leave it alone, you need to give roots time to grow :P

i had to pull out a weakling in the ground one time and it just seemed like it couldnt bust through the walls you know? all of the root mass was going through the little hole in the bottom. rather than doing that i use solo cups and the transplants are really easy + they can branch out into the new soil w/o having to bore its way through the (what seems to be cardboard) walls. maybe i got some cheap ones but it just seems like it delays root growth. knaw meen?

Ok so I been having bad luck. Maybe thats why I havent been posting.
More like Ive been doing stupid shit.
So I killed the one plant I had growing by giving it water with vinegar in it. Must have been to much vinegar idk. Then I germed 5 of my 10 NL and they all had nice little taproots. I again...on the same day maybe used vinegar mixed with water to lower the ph of my fox farms a little cuz it was reading like 7.5. So, another dumb move..only 1 of the 5 spouted. The 2 bagseeds I got going a little while ago are looking sick. I don't know wtf im doing wrong. Think its all ph troubles. I dont always let my water sit out overnight either so maybe its a chlorine thing, idk. I think part of it was using my cheap multimeter to test ph. Read some posts that say those are not accurate.
At any rate here are some pics of my sick plants. I will post one of the NL that sprouted maybe tomorrow.

Damn smokey that sux. Did u use white vinegar because i use it on my plain water days. My nutes drop ph on feeding days and my girl seems to do ok. I like the test strips gives u a good chlorine reading also. And they're cheap at wally world in the pool supplies. How much nutes r they gettin?

not all is lost then smokey!!! :) you have time to do a nice save!
at this stage it's not so easy to have deficiencies and/or rootbound so -it is just my two cents!- your problem is probably one among (or a mix of) ph/overwatering/nutes problems. You may consider (1) let your soil dry a little to let the roots recover/breathe, then (2) water once with plain water that sit down one night to flush and see how they react, then (3) start over with light nutes from the following watering when the soil is nice and dry.
(you can also skip (1) and flush immediately if things precipitate doing nothing - I'd wait just in case there's some overwatering)

just an idea as I said :) - maybe some pros have better advice m8 - see ya!!!

Hey there Smokey. I'm very sorry about your misfortune as of late, but I'm glad that your ok. I'll admit I was getting a little worried. Be cautious about flushing because doing that when using soil that contains slow release nutes could get you into some much deeper shit. Troubleshooting deficiencies is not my strong point, but I'm going to send you a pm about a plan that should work for you. On a positive note, the problems on your leaves don't appear to be too much to overcome at this point. Hang in there, you can do this.:-)

Plant 1 (Darker, thin leaves, sativa looking bag seed) Pics 1-3
This plant was planted in miracle grow organic gardening soil and was doing relatively fine. When it recently needed to be transplanted into its 3 gallon finishing pot I got a potting mix from a local farm market. The soil was shit. It was all wet and was just shitty clay like dense clumpy soil. I tried to use it anyway by adding alot of perlite. Another dumb move. The soil had no aeration and was just shit. The miracle grow gardening soil and the plant being pot bound when transplanted and the fact that the new soil was wet shit gave the plant a bit of root rot. I noticed within a day that the soil was not draining and the plant was real unhappy. So I made a midnight run to walmart and picked up miracle grow organic potting soil. I took the plant out of its pot. I brushed the shitty dirt off the original root ball. I sprayed the roots on the outside with water and cut some of the roots that were rotted. I then wrapped the root ball with paper towel and dried it off then put it into a 3 gallon pot with the MG organic Potting soil with some added perlite. I also removed the bottom branches that were sickly looking. I think this plant will recover. It is the tallest.

Plant 2: (Lighter thicker leaves, indica looking) Pics 4-6
This plant has done relatively well the whole time. It has a half yellow leaf maybe from getting fertilizer on it or something. I removed the 2 little dying leaves off the bottom today and this plant is looking healthy. This plant is in dollar store "professional potting mix". Also 3 gallon pot now.

Plant 3: (Northern Lights! in fox farms ocean forest) Pics 7-8
This plant is growing great. I have not watered it at all since I trasplanted it from a 16oz party cup to a 3 gallon. Well I watered it when trasplanted but not since then. Also I will have to look at my notes but I think I gave it like 1/4 strength grow big when I trasplanted it. You will notice the massive leaved wide short NL plant in the pics.

Fert:
I fertilized both tall plants now with 1/2 - 3/4 strength grow big.

P.S.
I do have a moisture meter and I use it to know when to water. Plant 1 got watered today because it was dry. NL no water for a few more days. Plant 2 got watered yesterday. I did not water it at all when I trasplanted 2 days ago so that way the water logged roots could breath. So it went around 1 day with pretty dry outside soil then I watered with light nutes

Nice save, Smokey.:-P Bad soil can definately kill your grow. It was good that you not only discovered the problem but also took steps to correct it.:-P Just keep it simple, buddy. All three of those plants look like they have potential to grow some sweet buds for you!:D

Ok so I got some pics from 5/23 and I ment to do an update and didnt so here it goes.

I switched to "red bulbs" and 12/12

The NL was not ready to flower so I put it into a "temporary holding" spot.

The temporary setup is a shelf on a shelving unit that I was making anyway. I purposely made it with more height on the middle shelf. Its 2ftx4ft. I put a 4 foot florescent light in there and closed it up with 6mil black plastic, the heavy duty stuff. I also put the remainder of the mylar I had in there. Then I added a small fan for circulation.

Ok so the pics are: The two plants in there box gettin ready to flower and then a pic of the temporary holding cell and then the NL out of its cell and then inside it.

Plant 2 (short plant in box thicker leaves)
Male - Dealt with

NL
Started LSTing it while its in its temp setup so it doesn't touch the light. Hopefully its a girl cuz I dont have any more backups. I do have 5 more NL seeds but I dont exactly have a great multi plant setup so...

Plant 1 (taller more sativa looking plant)
ITS A GIRL!
We got a confirmed girl here. Since the other was a male she has the box all to her self. She lovin it cuz she is a big girl. Shes like wall to wall in there now. Growing like frickin crazy. Remember this is the one I nearly killed and managed to save with a semi advanced procedure including snipping some roots.
PROBLEM - This plant is growing way to much. Its either sativa or a blend that leans that way. Its a tall mofo and its bushing out too. I am not going to have the height for this plant. You will see a pic with where my light board is and you can see there is a little space above that and thats it. The top of the pic is the top of the box. I got like 6 inches more to give it maybe. It is a lil over a week into flower and its definately a girl.
Going to be to tall:
What do I do?
Can I LST or scrog it or is it to late?
Didn't Prune lower branches:
Is it to late/Should I prune the lower branches?
I put some mylar I stole out of the temporary set up in there for now, angled up from the bottom. Should I just drop some CFL's in down by the bottom? This is possible but not super easy without disrupting its light period or sleep period. I have all the wiring fed through the box in a grommet I dont want to drop an extension cord in through the door really.

Also you can see the lady has a little light burn, oops...she grows so fast. Also the NL has one sick looking leaf, its been like that, not sure if I got some nutes on it or what but its like the tip half of the leaf

So here are the pics. The lady in her box and the LST started NL

It's quite late but I guess you can try to mildly bend just the top with a string attaching to the pot, making the plant go from "|" to "(" and save some vert space, getting a more even distribution of light at the same time. LST then. idk about scrog - seems quite difficult now

Try to post a pic in the LST big thread they may have a solution for you :)

Very good looking anyway, big plants! and best of luck with the NL as well!!!
