Is healthcare a right?

Think about it this way. Health care is something that we have to provide POWs (Prisoners Of War), and even to convicts, no matter how heinous the crime. We even have to provide health care to the people convicted of SUCH heinous crimes that we have decided the only fitting punishment is to KILL THEM.
So what then, about the law abiding citizens?

this really is asinine reasoning. we have to provide prisoners with food, clothing and accommodations as well. does that mean we should hand out these things to everyone as well? are we to provide all the necessities of life for anyone who asks? it is insane that what used to be considered charity is now seen as fulfilling a basic human right, but i guess it's perfectly all right as long as someone else is paying for it.

responsible people everywhere have to pay in some way or the other for dumb shits who can insure themselves but don't. how insane is that?
the individualist method ..., that is, the method of each 'one' doing his very best to improve 'one'.
if you believe in this, you are obligated to go insure yourself, so my neighbors and i don't end up footing the bill when you need a 5 night stay in the hospital and declare bankruptcy after getting the $60,000 bill.

I think at this point in our society we really should start to look at this as a right. Maybe not when we didnt have a clue and people were having shock therapy for mood swings, but I think we have it to a place now that it really does help fix lives in ways we never had before. It is just too big of a thing to deny people.
And since it is cheaper and more effective if there is check ups more often to catch stuff early, may as well have it be full coverage.

Dude, they're providing HORMONES and I believe even SEX CHANGE OPERATIONS to people in prison. If you think it's a problem you've really missed the boat on that one.
We're trying to have a society here people. Does anybody REALLY want it to be every asshole for himself? Anybody nostalgic for the days where if your house was on fire and you didn't pay to have a local station's emblem on your house, they would just drive on by? I could point out a ton of things people take totally for granted that are basically socialist in principle. Well, not even fucking socialist, it's humanist. Take some mushrooms or something and get in touch with your humanity for fuck's sake.

The arguments against taxes and against things like health care for all originate from people who own so much that they basically decide what happens to people far more than the government does.

The thing about America is, we're not even #1 in SOCIAL MOBILITY. Social mobility being the ability of the next generation to have it better than the last, to move up the ladder, etc.. We're not even close to #1. I believe we're 10th or 11th or something. So what the fuck, exactly, IS "The American Dream"? If there are that many other countries that actually do "The American Dream" considerably better than America does? There IS an enemy, it just takes enough of SOMETHING to alter your perspective long enough to catch a real good glimpse of it. Some things will need to change, drastically, if this country is to even survive. I've actually seen recently, GLEN BECK, quoting THOMAS PAINE. i think the question we need to ask ourselves is, is it right for a hard working american to pay for the health care of someone else who could care less because other shmoes are doing the work for them. not everyone puts in their fair share.

i completely agree. when these deadbeats who could afford insurance but choose not to buy it skip out on the bill after a $100,000 hospital visit, people like you and i end up footing the bill. not directly, but it costs us in the end. that shit sucks!

wow issues i never pondered, makes me luv my sweet cannabis i mean Canada that much more!! free health care, welfare and unemployment benefits which keep people off the streets, they even offer free schooling to qualified individuals, so many options. I've used my health card sooo many times thinking it was a right, not realizing it was such a great privilege, 4 that i must Thank u canada !
