I didn't say it wasn't partially a problem with black culture. I responded to you stating that the problem was all their fault, which it clearly isn't. It's not as black and white as you or buck, put it. And try not being a twat in your response for once.

by 1966 SSI was already over 30 years in the making. I guess it wasn't helping seniors much at that point.

Without the "help" we've given blacks, I would hope they would be on equal footing with whites in this country by now. Skin color has nothing to do with capability and I don't see the racism in this country around every corner like Buck does. I grew up in Detroit, have lived in Memphis, Atlanta and B'Ham. I just don't see what he does from his lilly white cocoon. I absolutely have seen it in the past though. No denying blacks were dealt a shitty hand in this country. Distant past. It's been since the 70's that I've seen blatant hurtful racism. What we see now is just words and ignorance.

One thing my line of work as a PT showed me, is for a percentage of people, the more you do for them, the less they do for themselves. This is human nature, again, nothing to do with skin color. I've also noticed each generation expects you to do more for them. My medicare people are far and away the hardest workers and most independent. My medicaid people are far and away the whiniest and least willing to do what needs to be done. We have entered the gimmie a pill era.

I say this because I include myself. My great grand dad built his house and furniture with hand tools and trees. No way in hell could I do that. I would die before I had the wood planed. Also, I hate housecleaning, if the government would clean my house for me, it would be an absolute mess for awhile if they stopped.

I've seen 4 nurses struggling to pick up a patient and move them to a chair and I've gone in and helped the person move themselves. Sometimes people don't realize what they are capable of and need encouragement. What we give them instead is "they can't do that, somebody needs to do it for them".

We have spent 15 trillion on our war and somebody who wanted to prove it worked picked some data to prove. Totally discounted was where it would be if we went with job training and apprenticeships instead of handouts. If we had invested that 15T in actual helpful policy instead of what you advocate. From the NYTimes ( that noted conservative rag) written in 2011. It shows at that point we had spent over 13Trillion. I doubt thinking we've spent 2 more in the last 2 years is much of a stretch. I think I've supported quite well that what we are doing is not the best or even a logical option. When we could send a check to each and every person living in poverty and lift them OUT of poverty CHEAPER than what we spend presently trying to "help", it should convince you that we are doing it wrong.
