Yes I am aware of that. Additionally the decarb from the heat changes color slightly. I guess my point is that color alone does not determine purity or quality.

I think you can definitely use the melted oil to determine quality..color clarity consistency is what I look for...with small perfect grain boundaries it appears white like my avatar.. to truly see the oil you melt it then look at the color and clarity.....decarbed thc is gold....won't change the color of the product..but if you use heat to decarb, that will

Yes I've tried your way, and it works fine but the end result is different. I prefer my current method which involves heat, simply because it not only finishes the entire process in 3 hours (sans a good 12 hour cure), but I also like the finished product better and its much easier to handle IMO. I don't sell it so I could really care less about how it looks. I just want it to be easy to handle and puff, and also be of good purity and nice taste.

My first dab is really small, small enough that I hold it in for a lil bit, the next is only slightly bigger, not able to hold very long... The Third is a knock-out punch...
This technique puts me RIGHT to sleep, as soon as the coughing fit is over...

hey thanks TC Ill upload pics of some gold flaky shatter I scraped off only at the top of my Pyrex that looks a lot like yours. I need to put something underneath like 1/2" blocks next time & I bet the slightly lower evap temp would make more like shatter than taffy...yes and maybe I won't be so impatient next time. I guess I was anxious mostly because it woulda sucked to waste premium bud if it came out like shit. Thankfully with you and others input it came out better than I thought qwiso could ever be...I was so wrong. I'm not sure I need to try butane extraction.
It's still taffy like but I tried some on my Ti domeless nail. At first I didn't put a big enough dab on there & I smoked right up then disappeared...so then I put a huge gob mixed with gold shatter on the pan & it started to melt but then I pulled too hard & it got sucked right down into my bong.... Ugh! Need more practice dabbing I guess.... Think I'm heating the nail up too much. Gonna try vaping some tonight, I bet it would burn nicely in my arizer with a few screens to catch the melt.

Yes you can literally see the air bubbles in it if you look under power. I tried to push out some of the air by folding, pressing, & rolling it like I do with my bubble hash but then it started to become a sticky mess after it warmed up & didn't want to lose any of it on the parchment. Heating it under low temp would help clarify it I bet but I'm gonna just enjoy it as is

Did you use 91% iso or 99%? It might be all tacky and pliable because there's still a bit of water in it. I personally hate the sticky gooey texture, because it's such a pain to handle on the run. That's why I usually whip mine over heat. It turns tacky and pliable to non-sticky and waxy, or a non-sticky opaque shatter texture if it's pure enough. IMO, a lot of it is highly strain dependant, as some strains naturally produce more waxes than others. Of course it also depends on how long you rinse for, as the longer you rinse the more non-cannabinoid substances you extract as well.

I'm not a big fan of the domeless nail. Aside from the part about it being easy to burn the fuck out of yourself, I feel that a dome and nail delivers better hits. I prefer a quartz nail personally.

I havn't been a fan of the domeless that I've used either. I enjoy my quartz nail I currently use, but would like to try a honey hole nail. It seems like for domeless it would be sweet.

I used 91% that was dehydrated with salt so it should've been as good as using 99%. I think I got moisture in the bud I used because it was only cured for a few weeks. Next time I'll leave it out near my dehumidifier for a couple days before freezing to dry it out completely....the rinse was under a minute but even after a slight accidental agitation I noticed it getting greener...seconds count as you say....hoping next time to make it more shatter like instead of taffy

beginning to not be a fan of it either... Looking at regular domes/nails now, any idea what temp is good for dabbing? I set my vaporizer to about 180c to start...is this a good temp to shoot for when I heat up my nail?

I only used about 20oz of a 32 oz bottle but I dumped about a half a salt shaker in...how would you tell of there is still water left ?

hmm I dint taste any salt just sweet dankness...I noticed the salt doesn't dissolve in the ISO which makes it easy to filter out with a coffee filter before freezing...I just did as vacpurge said & siphoned off the top 3/4 of the bottle with a turkey baster & dumped the rest out, then filtered it & froze it for 4 days...but yes I'm gonna go find some 99% to skip this step but it works in a pinch

By the time I dab the oil to the nail, it's at the perfect temp..
A cool little trick I use..
Sometimes, I don't get the nail quite as hot as it needs to be to accommodate my larger dabs.
When this happens, you can tell right away that the oil is either going to vape away completely or leave a tiny bit in the nail..
If I see that it's not hot enough..place thumb over the hole for the dome and rip a lil harder...
It always finished off that last lil bit..and bonus...it kind of works like a carburetor on a bong.
