Russia's attack against Ukraine was all speculation until Feb 24th, 2022 - but people in the intelligence community warned is was going to happen.
Looking at the bigger picture, would you be shocked if Russia went after a NATO country at the same time China goes after Taiwan? There's more than one chess piece on the board to look at.

yep it only blew up to a war of this scale when America had withdrawn from Afghanistan and decided to take an interest and use NATO. Despite Ukraine not being in NATO.
I would suggest that maybe many more lives on both sides have been lost due to that decision along with much more destruction.

Mexico want Cali back. The Native Americans want America back. The Hawaiians want their islands back. Japan wants its islands back, Ireland want its island back, China wants Taiwan back, Korea wants Korea back. Australian Aborigines want Australia back. Argentina wants the Falklands back. Palestine wants Palestine back. I'm sure we could come to a hundred countries who want their land back..

Their are lots of countries who laid claim to lots of Europe. You dont think that Germany or France for that matter has given up on its desire to rule all of Europe?
Whats a few hundred years to European wars and borders?
Americans like Australians have such a short history. We dont have the under current of European tensions, their issues and their wars and their conquerors.

Never forget that this Ukrainian shit began with Russia's "little green men" aka (Wagner) AND Rudy and the Chuckelfucks, pitching an oil deal in the Ukraine. It's about oil and the reserves of gas in Ukraine which could cut into Putin's skimming of the profits from Russian oil/gas sales to Europe.

Optuse? Not at all its been a long war with many stages. History and context matter.
NATO is pretty much Americas alliance. America calls most the shots as we all know. If America left NATO would not have much teeth and would in all likely hood fall apart from infighting and inaction. Remember Biden having to "chastise" Germany to take more action in regard to Ukraine and had to "talk" to many NATO leaders for Ukraine support?
Ukraine isn't in NATO.

It certainly did save many American lives. And if American hadn't defeated Japan, Australia would be just another island in the Japanese empire..Go read the grave stones at Iwo Jima or Guadalcanal, you won't see many Australians names..
