Why do American soldiers think...

One more thing, in your opinion, who do you think was right or wrong between my friend and I and why? Whole dialogue is on post #26 That would be you Pad, IMO of course. I think I've already made my position crystal clear.
So you agree with him that we should not send aid to Japan because they bombed Pearl Harbor in WW2?

In short, they make a choice, imo, it makes the world a more dangerous place and leads politicians to restrict our rights under the guise of safety and security. *Yawn* Matter of opinion.
Well, there you have it, don't ask for/expect my respect.

Whats with the "I fought for peace, for your fucking freedom" bit..? You ever hear me say this? What's with your disdain for men and women putting their lives on the line to "fight for your fucking freedom"?

No, I've never heard you say it, but I've heard more than one service member say it.

My disdain stems from my belief that they aren't putting their lives on the line for me, they just say they are because they've been told their occupation is honorable and they think it's justified, and that should be enough for me to bow down and praise them for their service. As I mentioned before, I think what they do - on the grand scale - puts each of us at greater risk than we would be without them. While they may help out and vaccinate kids in third world countries, their existence creates more terrorists, more enemies, and more dangerous situations that could have been prevented had the soldier chosen a different occupation.

You go on and keep enjoying that freedom to sit there and spew your bile that the sacrifices our men and women in uniform have afforded you. Good luck.
Oh, I'd be saying the same things regardless, trust me ;)

So you agree with him that we should not send aid to Japan because they bombed Pearl Harbor in WW2? Putting words in my mouth again? lol! I've never even implied such a thing! In fact Pad, I'm leaving for Japan tomorrow to help provide medical care to displaced people. I walk the walk Pad. ;-)

Well, there you have it, don't ask for/expect my respect. Trust me, I won't! I've never asked for/expected respect from anyone.

No, I've never heard you say it, but I've heard more than one service member say it. Umm, your point????

My disdain stems from my belief that they aren't putting their lives on the line for me, they just say they are because they've been told their occupation is honorable and they think it's justified, and that should be enough for me to bow down and praise them for their service. As I mentioned before, I think what they do - on the grand scale - puts each of us at greater risk than we would be without them. Take off the rose colored glasses Pad. The military ain't going anywhere!

Oh, I'd be saying the same things regardless, trust me ;) ????????????????
I do believe the U.S. does more good than harm, at least when I served I believe that was the case. I believe this because I experienced it, I didn't sit around getting spoon fed a bunch of horseshit from people with an axe to grind with the government for whatever reason. I'll say it again, I realize the U.S. government has done some bad shit. That doesn't mean that it's all bad or even mostly bad just because that's all you care to see or all you've read or been told. You cannot convince me otherwise because I lived it! :-P

This is just gonna have to be yet another thing we have to agree to disagree on.

Ok this is my last post on this topic, there is no changing anyones mind on the matter and therefore no point in wasting time. Anyway...I agree that there shouldn't be respect expected(which by the way is human nature), but I do believe that respect should be given. I don't believe that we should hold a race accountable for the actions their ancestors took part in, unless they believe the same things as their ancestors. Every country, military, and individual themselves have done things that are not honorable...but the U.S. Military is here for our countries protection, and the defense of those that cannot defend themselves. There is both good and bad to every thing in this world, but if you as a person try to do the best you can at everything you do and believe that you are helping and bettering the world...then that's all that matters in my humble opinion. Good days to you sirs, the debate has been heated and despite mixed beliefs actually quite enjoyable. Everyone that's served, thank you for your contributions to the betterment of this world.
