You've always had SS taken out, so you never really missed it. That is the deception. Most people don't miss it, it's just a little bit each paycheck. It's the same with the income tax, take it right out of the check so people become used to the idea that they do not get ALL of their wages, they get wages minus whatever the government wants to take out. Try being self employed and see how easy it is to pay double the SS AND have to write the check for it.
How many people would want to change our tax laws and SS if they had to pay for it out of their pocket instead of having it conveniently and quietly stolen from their property?

As for your last statement, I suggest you go back and read my statement......I said that I may not get the best ROI on the money I put into SSI, I never said it was a bad ROI. Anyone that invests long term realized that there are higher risk investments that may give a better ROI, but more volatile. You spread your risk, and the SSI is a very low risk investment as part of my retirement portfolio.

As for you whining about having to pay it out of pocket.....you make the decision to be self employed, and during good times, you reap the benefit of a good economy, and during tough times, you whine about paying what you have always had to pay. Honestly, with an attitude like that, I think you ought to go back to working for the man, you are not meant to be a business owner.

So keep whining that you have to pay SS. You always have the option to move to another country.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time following this one. So what you're saying is that because I educate myself on the issues from all kinds of sources, make my own conclusions based on what rings true to my own little brand of common sense, I'm somehow being influenced by two guys who may or may not share my viewpoints.

And furthermore, the money they legally spend on the causes they support is responsible for my lack of knowledge. Is that my lack of knowledge of who they are or are you suggesting that because I don't concern myself with the Koch brothers, I have no understanding of all these issues I spend countless hours reading about?

They just did the census and New York is set to lose two seats via the redistricting set to take place; I believe they're dropping one Republican district as well as Weiner's district... I can source it if you like, but a simple google search would yeild a dozen or more seperate sources all of which say the same thing.

It doesn't matter how heavily populated Queens and Brooklyn are, the district will just be split up. Sure, you've got me on one thing: At this point, nothing is final; I don't know that district will be gone for sure, as they say "it ain't over till the fat lady sings". But I know it's all but certain, and that's almost as good... Especially considering NY has a Democratic majority.

You're really just being a dick, IMO. Why dont you get to the point? You've failed to present a realistic scenario - or any scenario - in which the 9th does not go off the map. You can pick at the details all you want but that's the way it's set to happen - two seats will be lost and one of them will be the 9th.

NY has a supermajority in the house, they have the governorship and they may as well have the senate ITS FUCKING NEW YORK which means the political climate will not allow for Republicans to endlessly grandstand or they'll lose their jobs... Simple. They need a couple Republican votes, I bet they'll get them, especially considering that district is normally solidly Democratic; The 9th will not exist.

Also, it seems the DNC is very confident they'll get their way as well... They didn't spend hardly any money on that special election, you think they would hand over a normally solidly Democratic district if they didn't have something up their sleeves? That something is the redistricting... Like I said, the 9th will not exist in 2012.
