I did not say saving for retirement is republican nonsense.....I said that Republicans are trying to scare Americans into privatizing Social Security.....
I am a democrat....I pay into SSI and Medicare, and I have my own retirement plan. Yes, that is common sense.

The TRUTH is that Social Security, even in its current form, will continue to be there for a long, long time. They cannot even predict when it would run out of money, but the answer is NO TIME SOON. Social Security will pay out at 100 percent for at least the next 28 years, and be able to continue into the foreseeable future at a discounted rate.
The TRUTH is, that Republicans want you to believe that SSI will fail, so you will help them get rid of SSI, and that will inject TRILLIONS of dollars into the hands of the super wealthy. And you think we lost a lot in this downturn......we did not lose the money.....it went into someone else's hands.....the super rich.
The CBO showed all of this, but Republicans always fail to rely on fact.....they prefer fiction.....it serves them much better.

Sounds to me like Jack Fate ran up his bills so bad that he could not pay them, then ditched out on all of his debt. If we all used Jack's example, he would want us to default on our foreign debts, and take the world economy with us..
Jack, who do you think pays for your debts when you cannot pay them......we all do. You just added your debts to our prices we pay for goods.......me thinks I see a hypocrite!

My bankruptcy was from medical bills at the age of 21 in 1969. I used that example in a discussion on health care. You guys are really desperate. LOL.

Social security is not a Ponzi scheme; In fact, with a few minor adjustments social security will last ages.... social security isn't really the problem(driving our long term debt/deficits) anyway, it's medicare/medicaid - and that's primarily because of medical costs outpacing inflation over time, which can also be fixed.

If you were to treat yourself like you vote, your family should be taking care of the extra bills. Why did you not have health insurance to pay for the bills. Personal responsibility.
So, as we dig deeper, we find that Jack has filed bankruptcy, and that was because of unpaid medical bills when he was young.
What I would like Jack to do right now is to envision himself as a 21 year old, and a 21 year old that lives in a country with universal health care for its citizens.....now wouldn't that have been nice to have that, so you did not have to stick all those folks with your bills.
Funny to me that someone like you, who has been through bankruptcy because of medical bills, would sit on the opposite side of those that want Universal health care. Seems to me like you did not learn very much from your life experiences.
I can tell you that if we had health coverage for all, Jack Fate would not have had to stress about his medical bills, nor would he have had to claim bankruptcy. And now, it seems like he backs the Republican Party.....the party that seemingly wants to keep things the same way.....The party that wants to keep people with health struggles claiming bankruptcy, getting foreclosed on.
Funny how a ton of my Republican friends stopped paying their mortgage to TRY and get a modification, even when they could afford it.......then they whine when they do not get the modification.......anyone know where this program came from that they are so desperately trying to take full advantage of, and even lie to get it........Obama. While Ponzi scheme and SS have become dangerously close by misinterpreted definition I do not feel that I want or need government to hold my money from myself like I can't be trusted with my own earnings. For that reasons alone I am against Social Security, other people may feel it's a good to have Uncle Sam regulate their savings in hopes they will get a return from it.
There are other ways to go about the idea of a "Socail Safety Net" and this is not it.
Let me ask you this mame, how do you propose we fix the over inflated price of the healthcare field? More government regulations ?
EVERYTHING government gets involved in gets inflated; College, as an example, has only exponentially increased in cost since government tried to regulate it.
Don't' believe me? Look at the cost of college circa pre-pell grant and compare it to college in modern times. Calculate for inflation (a direct derivative of the Federal Reserve printing trillions in counterfeit money, another government invovlement) and I bet you the former number is miles less than the latter.

I have a hardcore republican 'friend' who still goes on about Obama's birth certificate and preaches personal responsibility like our friend Jack here yet he will take advantage of any and every govt program he can, even down to finding a vet for his dog. He collects social security, has govt health care, wrote off over $250,000 in credit card debt through bankruptcy, you name it. When I point out to him why he thinks he deserves all this and no one else does his only response is 'because I paid my dues'. Kind of reminds me of Jack.

Here's the thing... empirical evidence from around the world suggests that in the healthcare feild, government intervention reduces costs. I could point to France, Germany, the UK, Canada and many others ALL of whom have socialized insurance(with the UK having a true socialized medical system where the doctors are gov employees) and ALL of them pay HALF of what we pay per person, with 99% coverage... This is undeniable, irrefutable fact. It's not because Americans are fat, or any other reason (Americans being fat does account for a very small portion of our extra costs but it is not the reason our costs are double other advanced nations)...
Obamacare aims to bend the curve to reduce future costs: If everyone is in the insurance pool, than that dilutes the amount of old and/or sick in the system compared to healthy individuals thus lowering costs, for example.
I want to address "death panels" as well real quick because the phrase has been blown out of proportion. What they're referring to is only about what the GOVERNMENT should pay for... how do you think it would work out if the government was paying for everyone's cancer treatment? It would get expensive for the taxpayers, right? Well, since government already does not help with cancer treatment, and private funds are already needed and Obamacare leaves private medical practice in tact - one with cancer would still pay for their treatment as they do now(if they can afford it)... If they cannot afford it, then they presumably die, but they would have without Obamacare too... So Obamacare isn't killing granny either.
